Home Renovation Scam

A Delaware man is facing jail time for his role in a home renovation scam. Theodore Barrett Jr. lied to prospective clients about his experience in building a luxury home in order to win a renovation contract. He plead guilty to theft by false pretenses and is facing up to 4 years in jail.
He was accused of fraudulently acquiring over $90,000 from a couple who wanted to renovate their home. The trouble for Barrett began when he failed to live up to the terms of the contract and the renovation stalled. This caused the couple to file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office and terminate the contract after they learned that the building permit he submitted had been falsified. Barrett went so far as to take the clients on a tour of a lavish home in West Ocean City which he claimed was built by his company, when in fact it was not.
