Funds are being raised for a substantial renovation of the Greenport Skate Park, when they hold the Third Annual Greenport Skate Park Festival, this Saturday.
The park which was inaugurated in October 1998 has deteriorated over the years as no maintenance plan was set aside by the village.
Michelle and Michael Bendik who are organizers of the festival have taken it upon them for renovation of the park, so that it can become a hub for families to gather and relax. Their renovation plan would be in 3 phases viz., resurfacing the park, building the ramps again and creating greenery for the community.
So far the skate park has not been much of priority for the village and there has not been much of renovation work.
According to Benedik, as they do not have non- profit status, their efforts to get companies to fund the renovation is not bearing fruit.
