The USS Harpers Ferry will be undergoing renovation, it has been scheduled. General Dynamics NASSCO has been given $24 million to do renovation aboard the USS Harpers Ferry.
The renovation work will include alterations and repairs and all the ship's equipments and systems will be checked by the company. The renovation work has been undertaken as part of the fiscal year 2011 Extended Docking Phased Maintenance Availability (EDPMA).
The full value of the contract is expected to reach $100 million. The renovation work will be done by NASSCO's ship repair unit which comprises of approximately 750 employees. The work should be complete by July 2012. This renovation work will include major overhauls, upgrades and improvements to the USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49).
